Was thinking about this after observing how much people build autistic walls. Imagine if units can't create walls, then you will be open for attack, but isn't that reality already? There are no more forts and castles defending us. If you wish to defend your city, you have to fill it with soldiers, arty and tanks. So why not here on Afterwind as well?

I truly believe by removing walls, you will have more fun playing and fighting. Autistic walls prevent you to fight... sometimes for 20 turns if enemy is really that autistic to use all his units only to build walls and not actually play the game(thanks alot button 1). No matter how big map is > it will be filled with layers and layers of walls, trust me.

It will force you to expect attack, force you to guess where will enemy hit, so you can prevent him by attack his stack or putting more units in the city.

Or maybe just create radious around cities where it is possible to create walls, only for cities in that radius. Something like that maybe, as a compromise.

Only imagine clan war where you can't wall, or World War II where you are unable to stop US landing, you have to face them in combat (but he also can't stop you invading US mainland, he have to face you instead hiding behind soldiers holding hands )

Baltic building wall using all reinf, they hope Russian tanks won't brake through

I can see where this could work in some instances, like clan wars or ww2. But for small countries in games that are like Colonial Supremacy where Netherlands is faced with so many on their border, it is impossible to do away with walls because the advantage will shift majorly to big powers, in a way we haven't seen. I see your frustration with walls, but I don't see a realistic way to get rid of this.

Hmm, you have a point there, but alot of maps like Colonial are 'total annihilation' which mean if you lose your capital (Amsterdam) you will still have colonies and other territories. Plus, you start small nation with extra reinf (50-100), that is enough to deter larger neighbor. Beside, you can always ally them or make them fight each other using alliances, private chat or gold.

Bottom line, even if you can build walls, you won't save Amsterdam from Germany because when he breach walls, he will simply cap the city next turn. You can't defend it or rewall (he will wf 99%)

Yeah, I guess, but sometimes there aren't that great of hosts and put it on capture full country. I like the certain radius around cities, because that would make it a little less awful, but some countries might need it.

well, as a matter of fact, in real life what protects you isn't walls. It's lack of information. No general will choose to attack if they don't know how many troops the enemy has in a city. If you want to talk about realism, you'd have to lower the fog of war by an extremely large amount....

Make it an option when creating a game. See what happens.

I wish we could build the following two items in cities:
1) Defensive trenches. These would serve the same purpose as walls.
2) Forts. These would multiply the defensive power of all units in the city.

Make them a unit feature that can be costumized on map editor, where we can choose certain ground units to be able to form defensive lines or not, make that already set for standard units tho. This would be a cool feature for edited maps.

Well, we can already create trench unit and fort unit in mapmaker, as Aetius did in War to end all Wars map. He made them have low attack and high defence points and zero range.

General [unit] already boost units he command, by giving them either attack or defence points [+1], so no need for fort unit to do it.

Not bad, not bad, i like it. So some mapmakers can turn off wall capability for all units, thus creating special enviroment for his map.

Autistic walling is pretty easy to stop (wallfucking with planes or attacking with 2 units preferebly tanks)
maybe that should be an option for scenerios only (and the map maker will chose to add it or not) since if it gets added it will ruin scenerios and eu+ by too much
and also for creating a realistic map (like luketan said) you need to lower view range , move range and add supply units (lets say supply line 20 capacity 10 range) this whould add more depht to the play and more thinking and in a general all out war destruction of the enemies income via bombings whould be important aswell and planes whould play big role in the game, the infantry unit in my opinion for realistic map will need to have higher def in cities and it whould take 3 units to destroy (due to knowing the city terrain and bigger moral) and i think one of the best feature i can think off is adding strong walls that you need to kill all the units to pass much like forts this might make a trench like enviorment in time of war (this should also be map makers choice)and adding certain weather types (faster units in summer and slower less attack and defences in winter).

these are things that i think whould make the game realistic altough adding them all will certainly ruin the game and i dont think most of them should be added (exept the strong walls thing again as choice by the map maker)
