NATO only fights against those nations it knows it can win against. All others they throw their hands in the air, sing Kumbaya and lay sanctions.
If they went against Russia they'd have China to deal with too (as a non-combatant probably but significant economic aid)

Regardless of what nato has done in the past, ukr is not part of nato so they are not required to counterattack.

Actually they did take their autonomy from them, the new Ukrainian goverment discontinued the Russian language's official status in Ukraine

That's true, because 5 million Americans landed in Britain who OPENLY said they are willing to fight the Nazis and end this war as soon as possible so they can return home. They said that in 1942 and their leadership let them wait for 2 years to help USSR in 1944 when Red Army already reached Berlin and 80% of German Army was already destroyed.
